TN • Big Fork Campground

Located at one of the main trailheads in Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, Big Fork Campground is your gateway to some of the most beautiful trail riding in the Southeast. You'll have your choice of RV campsites, tent campsites, or camper rentals. The new state-of-the-art barn has 14x14 bedded stalls, wash racks, grass turnouts, and a 16' center aisle. The second barn has 12x12 stalls with 2-hour turnouts and a private tack room. Shavings are provided free of charge. With a trailhead at the campground, your adventure will start a few steps from your campsite!

Location

Big Fork Campground is located at the entrance of the Mount Helen Trailhead at Park Road in the Big South Fork Recreation Area. From the trailhead, you can ride directly to Needles Eye, Laurel Overlook, White Oak Overlook, Jake's Hole, the O & W Bridge, Gun Rock, Double Arches and many more. The O & W Railroad bed, which runs alongside the White Oak River and is known as the jewel of the park, is a 30-minute ride from the trailhead. For the adventurous riders, you can even ride through Big South Fork into Kentucky's 708,000-acre Daniel Boone National Forest. 

Trail Rides

"Trail Rider" magazine named Big South Fork the "Horse riding capital of the southeast," with over 200 miles of trails that have overlooks, cliffs, bluffs, caves, and creek crossings to explore. The trails range from short, easy, day rides to long, challenging loops that take several days to complete. It's recommended that horses have shoes, as some areas can be rocky. Color maps will be provided.  

Guides

Let locals who grew up here and know every inch of the park take you to the best overlooks and landmarks in the park. You'll get to hear great stories and learn about the history of the area as it's been passed down through the generations. 

Additional Activities

Big South Fork is also great for hiking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, and birding. The John Muir National Recreation Trail, a famous hiking trail that passes through the park, is very close the the campground. It is one of the top 5 most beautiful trails in Tennessee.

Accommodations

Big Fork Campground has RV campsites, tent campsites, and camper rentals. 12 sites accommodate large and medium RVs with electric and water hook-ups. No need to back into your spot; all RV sites are pull-through. Primitive sites have water nearby.

All sites have fire pits, as well as a covered gathering/eating area with a gas grill, coffee pot, etc.. The new bathrooms have private, spacious showers. WiFi coming soon!

The barn has a 16' center-aisle with eight 14 x 14 bedded stalls. There are two wash racks next to the barn with hot water inside.  

You'll also find a newly completed mini-barn that has four 12x12 bedded stalls, private tack room, and hay storage. Sawdust included in both barns. 

You can also rent a grass turnout paddock, corral panel pen, or picket line.
